As fans prepare for the second and final week of the international break, it feels like there s even more of an appetite than ever before to see domestic football get back underway once again. Alas, while that could well be the case, it still seems like there are some big games left before we get back into the nitty gritty of the Premier League and beyond with Spain vs England being a particularly exciting contest. It s a game that we saw take place a little over a month ago, and given how that went, we re quite excited to see the sequel.
Spain
Since Luis Enrique began his new role as manager of the national team, Spain have been on fire. Their somewhat disappointing World Cup campaign is already behind them, and they re already starting to focus their attention on UEFA Euro 2020 where they ll attempt to wrestle back the European Championship that they held between 2008 and 2016. They ve got a nice mixture of veteran stars and young talent and that should make for an exciting future which is a fairly terrifying prospect for most of the other elite nations around Europe.
Team News
Asensio, Busquets and Alcantara are all expected to make returns to the starting XI, with David De Gea being set to use his Premier League experience in England to his advantage.
England
England s World Cup heroics will forever be remembered by all who experienced it, with Gareth Southgate being more than deserving of his new contract. However, many fans have already begun asking questions regarding whether or not they ll be able to find success at the Euros and beyond with such a young squad. While it feels like they ve already proven what they re capable of doing on such a big stage, the Three Lions will likely relish the opportunity to do it all over again.
Team News
Jordan Henderson and John Stones will miss out through suspension, but the big story will still likely be whether or not Jadon Sancho gets to start after an impressive display against Croatia.
Factors to Consider
The game will be played at Seville s Benito Villamarin.
Spain have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
England have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
Spain have scored 16 goals and conceded five in their last six games.
England have scored five goals and conceded six in their last six games.
Conclusion
England will be out for revenge, but unlike the games against Croatia, it doesn t feel like they re quite as invested in the idea against Spain. Either way the Spanish just seem to have more quality littered throughout the pitch and that s what is going to make the biggest difference here, contrary to what people may choose to believe. We re going to go ahead and predict that Spain will race into a 3-0 lead before England pull one back via some kind of set piece, meaning the hosts will push their current winning streak to four games.
