Fofana left out of Leicester squad for Southampton game as Chelsea target defender

Wesley Fofana was left out of the Leicester City squad for Saturday s game against Southampton amid ongoing transfer interest from Chelsea.

The Blues have reportedly seen several advances for the Frenchman rebuffed, with Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers insistent the club do not want to sell the defender.

Speaking in Friday s press conference, Rodgers reiterated the club s stance has not changed and Fofana is not for sale.

The idea is that he is very much a Leicester player. He s not for sale. Unless anything changes, I would expect him to be here, Rodgers said.

The 21-year-old Fofana is reportedly keen to secure a move to Stamford Bridge though. With that distraction a factor, he was not included for the visit of Saints on Saturday.

Liverpool boss Klopp confirms Milner extension talks

Speaking to the press ahead of his team s trip to Burnley on Sunday, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the club are in talks with James Milner over extending the experienced midfielder s contract.

Year after year, many expect Milner to start slowing down, but the 36-year-old remains among the fittest players in the league. Having joined Liverpool in the summer of 2015 from Manchester City as a free agent, he s made a total of 273 appearances for the Merseysiders in all competitions so far, scoring 26 goals and producing 44 assists. His contribution to everything Klopp s team have achieved in the last couple of years can hardly be exaggerated, especially in 2016-17 when he admirably filled the role of left-back for the whole season.

Even though his contra…

Vincent Kompany convinced Burnley will eventually get reward for their displays

Vincent Kompany insisted Burnley were not getting the rewards their performances deserve after they slumped to a top-flight record sixth straight home defeat to start the season, losing 2-0 to Crystal Palace at Turf Moor.

A mistake from Jordan Beyer allowed Jeffrey Schlupp to put Palace in front in the 22nd minute and, despite dominating the ball and having 16 shots to Palace’s four, Burnley could not find an equaliser before Tyrick Mitchell doubled the visitors’ lead in stoppage time.

Defeat means Burnley are off the bottom of the table on goal difference alone, having already played a third of their home fixtures without reward.

When they suffered relegation in 2021-22, Burnley lost eight home games all season, but could conceivably reach that number before…

Latvia 0-1 Netherlands: Klaassen sends Oranje clear in Group G

The Netherlands took control of World Cup qualifying Group G with a 1-0 victory over Latvia on Friday.

Davy Klaassen scored the only goal of the game in the first half as Oranje edged an uninspiring contest in Riga.

After scoring 10 goals in their previous two matches against Montenegro and Turkey, Louis van Gaal s men were far more laboured against a side whose only World Cup qualifying wins since the end of 2013 have come against Andorra and Gibraltar.

3 points in the bag!

Klaassen s opening goal was a well-taken volley on the turn from Memphis Depay s corner, as the Netherlands started in positive fashion.

Yet Klaassen was required to make a double block against Andrejs Ciganiks and Roberts Uldrikis at th…

Milan 1-3 Sassuolo: Rossoneri rocked as Scamacca and Berardi punish Pioli´s men

Domenico Berardi inflicted the final blow as Milan slipped up 3-1 against Sassuolo at San Siro, suffering back-to-back Serie A defeats for the first time since April.

Alessio Romagnoli s powerful header had been Milan s reward for a strong start, but Gianluca Scamacca s excellent long-range strike and an own goal from the unlucky Simon Kjaer helped mid-table Sassuolo reach the interval with a lead.

Berardi finished off Milan with a fine goal in the 66th minute, the Italy forward showing his class to outwit Romagnoli before beating Mike Maignan.

A red card for captain Romagnoli for hauling down Gregoire Defrel with effectively a rugby tackle compounded a bad day for Milan, who began the day level on points with leaders Napoli.

After a superb long-range Uros Racic opener stunned Atleti, their record signing scored his first LaLiga goal since November 7 to level matters and later laid on the second for Luis Suarez, Thursday s two-goal hero.

Substitute Angel Correa on for Joao Felix made sure of another win, which represented a vital response to Real Madrid s own triumph on Saturday, maintaining a healthy gap while the Rojiblancos still have …
