Several teams target promotion as EFL campaigns edge towards conclusion

The first EFL promotion places could be confirmed this Saturday, with Portsmouth, Stockport and Wrexham all looking for the results to rubber-stamp their elevation.

Here, the PA news agency looks at what is required in each division.

Championship

Rotherham are down and nothing else will be decided this weekend at either end of the table, though Southampton will secure a play-off place unless they lose and Coventry and Preston both win.

League One

Portsmouth will be confirmed as a Championship team for next season if they beat third-placed Bolton.

Should Pompey drop points, they can still be promoted on Saturday if they at least match the results of both second-placed Derby and fourth-placed Peterborough, who face Leyton Orient and Oxford respectively.

Shakhtar Donetsk v BATE: Azevedo cools talk of 7-0 repeat

Marcio Azevedo has warned Shakhtar Donetsk not to underestimate the threat of BATE in Wednesday UEFA Champions League encounter.

The Ukrainian champions were convincing 7-0 winners in Belarus last time out as they picked up their first victory of their Group H campaign in stunning fashion.

Luiz Adriano became Shakhtar s all-time leading goalscorer with an incredible five-goal haul in that game, which moved Mircea Lucescu s side up to second in the pool.

For BATE, a defensive improvement is a must ahead of their trip to Lviv if they are to reclaim second spot, but defender Azevedo a doubt for the game with a knee problem has urged Shakhtar not to expect such a comprehensive victory this time around.

Bordeuax fine Tremoulinas for drink-driving

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud has revealed Benoit Tremoulinas will be disciplined by the club after being charged with drink-driving.

The 26-year-old defender was allegedly intoxicated after being pulled over by police on Tuesday and was placed in custody after refusing to comply with his arresting officers.

Triaud has now revealed Tremoulinas is now facing a club fine.

It s not very professional or very smart on his part, Triaud told i Tele. We must face the facts and accept the mistake. It s a youthful indiscretion. There will be a penalty.

Tremoulinas was a key member of the Bordeaux side which won the Ligue 1 title in 2009 but has struggled to recapture his best form this season.

N´Zonzi eyes Sevilla exit amid Premier League interest

Sevilla midfielder Steven N Zonzi has admitted he wants out of the club as rumours intensify surrounding a possible return to the Premier League.

N Zonzi has not featured since being substituted at half-time of Sevilla s 3-3 draw with Liverpool last month – with his team trailing 3-0 – and the France international confirmed he has fallen out with coach Eduardo Berizzo.

The situation has given rise to speculation linking him with Arsenal and Everton, while the Reds are also reported to be interested in the former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City man.

While N Zonzi insists his visit to London on Tuesday has nothing to do with a transfer and is purely to see his son, the 28-year-old believes the time has come to leave the club he joined in July 2015.

Stephane Ruffier talks up St Etienne stay

French goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier is likely to remain at Saint Etienne for the foreseeable future, according to his official representative.

The 28-year-old has long been regarded one of the country s top shot-stoppers, but has so far resisted temptation to quit France despite heavy interest from abroad.

And while Europe s top clubs continue casting admiring glances his way, Ruffier s agent has suggested his client is perfectly happy at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

“A goalkeeper must always play. Stephane Ruffier prefers to be the king at Saint Etienne, rather than a back-up at Barca,” agent Patrick Glanz told Eurosport.

The experienced shot-stopper joined les Verts from Monaco almost four years ago and hasn t missed a minute of league action since.
