Martin Jol is the right man for Fulham

Successful manager

Roy Hodgson did an absolutely wonderful job as the manager of Fulham and it was a devastating blow for the club to lose him to Liverpool.

I wondered if this could be a very bad time for Fulham because their success seemed intrinsically linked to Hodgson, in the way that Charlton flourished under Alan Curbishley and then plummeted when he left.

Secret

It is now a not very well kept secret that later this week the current Ajax boss Martin Jol will named as Hodgson’s replacement. This is great news for Fulham fans and I think this appointment is about as good as you could have had.

There were plenty of other managers linked to the role. Sven Goran Eriksson is believed to have talked to Fulham but is now talking about signing an ex…

Liverpool consider Chinese takeover

Premier League club Liverpool could be bought by a Chinese business tycoon within days, according to reports here on Monday.

Kenny Huang, head of Hong-Kong based investment company QSL Sports Ltd, is reported to be in talks with the Royal Bank of Scotland with the aim of taking full control of the club which has been up for sale since April.

A deal has to be done before the transfer window closes (on 31 August), a source close to Huang told BBC Sport.

Huang has made a firm proposal. The club s board has to sanction the sale and it could be sewn up in days.

Huang is offering to clear Liverpool s debt to RBS and hand new manager Roy Hodgson funds to do business in the transfer window. The tycoon also plans to build the club a new stadium.

Dzeko set for City stay

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that Edin Dzeko will not be sold when the transfer window reopens, .

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international, who was handed a rare start at the weekend, scored the only goal of the game as City edged past Crystal Palace to briefly rise to the top of the table.

With Alvaro Negredo and the currently injured Sergio Aguero the club’s first choice strikers, speculation had arose around the former Wolfsburg man’s future, but Pellegrini is certain that he will not be allowed to leave amid rumours that Arsenal are interested in securing his services.

The 27 year old, who moved to Manchester for £27m in 2010, has scored fifty goals in one hundred and twenty-eight appearances.

He is likely to remain …

Ederson out for rest of season

Lazio have been dealt a massive blow with Ederson to miss the rest of the season due to surgery for detached tendons in his thigh.

The Brazilian midfielder collapsed with what looked like a hamstring injury during Sunday s 3-2 win at Udinese.

But scans on Tuesday revealed tendons in his right thigh had become detached and surgery was the only option.

The 28-year-old suffered a similar injury to his left thigh in August 2010.

Unfortunately, the lad suffered the same lesion as in the past, but this time in his right thigh, doctor Roberto Bianchini told Lazio Style Radio.

He will need surgery and he asked for the same specialist who operated on him in Lyon. We agreed to have the surgery there.

It will be a long lay-off, about five or six m…

Kroos: I´m not scared of Bayern Munich

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos insists he is not afraid of facing former club Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The holders dispatched Napoli 6-2 on aggregate to book their place in the last eight for the seventh season in succession.

They will meet Bayern coached by former Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti  in the tie next month, with the Bundesliga leaders having destroyed Arsenal 10-2 across two legs to keep their hopes of a treble alive.

Bayern have won 11 out of 13 games since the turn of the year and all of their last six, but Kroos who left the Allianz Arena for Madrid in 2014 is relishing the meeting.

I m not scared of Bayern Munich, the Germany international told Faz Sport. If you want to win the Champions League, you have to b…

Friedel signs one-year extension at Spurs

Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has signed a new one-year deal with the Premier League club.

The American veteran who turned 43 last month joined Tottenham in 2011, but has been usurped in the starting XI over the last two years by France international Hugo Lloris.

Friedel made just nine appearances in all competitions last season, with his only Premier League outing coming in a 1-0 home defeat to Newcastle United in November after Lloris suffered a head injury against Everton in the previous game.

The former United States international s contract was due to expire at the end of June, but he is now set to remain at White Hart Lane for one more season under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Alongside his playing role, Friedel has also been made a club ambassad…

Rakitic considers Tottenham switch

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic is considering a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

It’s no secret that the former Sevilla man is interested in a move away from the Nou Camp, and with Ronald Koeman changing things up in a big way since arriving as their new manager, Rakitic’s days do appear to be numbered.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has never been shy when it comes to making a big splash in the summer transfer window, and this truly would be a monumental signing for the North London outfit.

Their qualification for next season’s UEFA Europa League will only gloss over the fact that they’ve been performing below expectations ever since their defeat in the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.

Rakitic is now 32…

Inter Milan edge out Bologna to extend Serie A lead to 18 points.

Inter Milan extended their lead at the top of Serie A with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Bologna.

With closest challengers Juventus not in action until Sunday, Simone Inzaghi’s side took full advantage to move 18 points clear.

Yann Bisseck’s first-half header proved enough for a 14th straight victory in all competitions to end Bologna’s own winning run.

HUGE 3 POINTS!

The Nerazzurri started brightly, with Alexis Sanchez forcing Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski into an early save at the near post before Matteo Darmian sent a left-footed shot wide.

Nicolo Barella then fired straight at Skorupski after collecting a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area and Carlos Augusto’s angled drive was well saved.

League Cup still matters to United´s Brown

The English League Cup may not be top of everyone s priority list but for Manchester United defender Wes Brown it s helping extend his Old Trafford career.

The 31-year-old s contract with the English giants is due to expire at the end of the season and Brown, an ever-present in the League Cup this season, is eager to prove his worth again should he be selected by Sir Alex Ferguson for United s quarter-final away to Premier League rivals West Ham on Tuesday.

I am not getting any younger now and every game I do play I just try to enjoy and do my best for the team, he said.

You have to give everything for the cause. That is the most important thing for me, added Brown, who has lately been playing at full-back, where he started in the 2008 Champions League win ove…

Tottenham sign Davies and Vorm as Sigurdsson joins Swansea

Tottenham have completed the signing of Swansea City duo Ben Davies and Michel Vorm, with Gylfi Sigurdsson moving in the opposite direction.

Wales full-back Davies, who has long been linked with a switch to White Hart Lane, has signed a five-year deal, with goalkeeper Vorm agreeing a four-year term.

Davies turned professional with Swansea in 2011, having joined the club as an eight-year-old, and featured in their League Cup final victory over Bradford City in 2013.

Having made 71 Premier League appearances for the Welsh outfit and earned 10 international caps, he is now excited to embark on a fresh challenge.

Moving to Spurs is a massive footballing challenge for me again, but I m looking forward to it, the 21-year-old told Swansea s official website.
